Riding on the wind of an extremely successful run, which saw the talented producer release his debut full-length album and perform relentlessly across the globe – Dombrance is back with new music that is bound to send shockwaves across the scene.
Last year saw some memorable live highlights including performing twice at the iconic Rabbit Hole Stage at Glastonbury Festival, a sell out Mayan Warrior in Downtown Los Angeles, playing before Underworld at Tropico Festival in Mexico and a truly memorable show at FORMAT Festival in Bentonville Arkansas, where he worked closely with D&B Soundscape – presenting his mesmerising show in fully immersive sound.
On March 1st – Dombrance will release Double Trouble on international label Discolypso – closing the book for now on a long running theme of pairing French politicians to his music.
Dombrance Explains:
For 5 years I’ve been using the names of politicians to create pieces of music. This formula has enabled me to create characters and give a fun visual identity to each song. I have been very lucky to work with the talented Olivier Laude in developing these graphics for my artwork and the animated visuals I use on stage.
It has been an honour to work alongside INA (The French National Audiovisual Institute) – who allowed me to dig deep into the French archives and create video pieces to go with my last album ‘Republique Electronique’. The pairing of retro footage from Paris in the 1960s – remixed alongside my music has worked really well at my shows!
For months now, I have been working on new productions, but I wanted to end this politician cycle in style with two songs….. the final bouquet
On the menu: ‘Copé’, who disappeared suddenly from circulation after publicly mistaking the price of a ‘pain au chocolat’!!
‘Bayrou’, another politician – who thought he finally came to power with Macron, but had to leave the government barely after entering it, indicted for embezzlement of public funds!
To accompany them, a completely crazy video, a first dive into live animation from the genius graphic designer Olivier Laude, animated by his friend Ulysse Lefort. They worked hours of labor, homemade with a burst of colours, humour, and a lot of love. A mix of French comics, American cinema, and Japanese manga.
In this new EP titled Double Trouble, there is also a string of remixes from legendary producers and the cream of current clubbing DJs:
François K, whom I have had the chance to hang out with occasionally during the last two years. A great DJ, great remixer and producer who collaborated with Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk and more. His remix of “Copé” is a psychedelic wonder that navigates in different directions and genres and makes you lose your mind.
Lindstrøm – A great influence to me, he comes with a remix of ‘Bayrou’, imagine a cocktail / pool party mode filmed by David Lynch.
Daniele Baldelli & Dionigi – The song ‘Bayrou’ being a tribute to Italo-disco, what better than to ask a legend of the genre to make a remix.
Rigopolar – The best DJ set I’ve seen in the last two years. A master magician of minimal disco.
Freudenthal – A long-time friend, former member of the group ‘Pardon Moi’. He cooked up two remixes of ‘Copé’ stuffed with cortisone that overshoot to infinity!
DiskJokke – Another one of those talented Norwegian Space Disco producers – his remix I can imagine being played in a serious old school rave
Josh Ludlow – Josh remixed my track Taubira a few years ago to great effect, his version of Cope has a cool 80’s drum machine kinda feel – a great addition to the team!
A French New Yorker, an Italian, a Mexican, an Englishman, a German and two Norwegians.
All the magic of universality in electronic music.
